crowns and bridges

Crowns & Bridges

Dental crowns, sometimes known as “caps”, are restorations that are custom-fabricated to fit over your existing weak or damaged teeth to protect them or improve their cosmetic appearance. A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth and consists of more than one crown joined together to close the gap between two supporting healthy teeth.
Crowns and Bridges can be made from a number of different materials, from non-precious metal to gold and porcelain. Depending on your case, the dentist will determine which crown material will suit you best, this may be influenced by aesthetics or function and strength.
Crowns and Bridges are generally done over two appointments. At your first appointment, the dentist will take an X-ray to rule out any underlying infection. After this, a series of steps to reshape and prepare your tooth for the crown will be carried out. Dental impressions will be taken of the final preparation followed by cementation of a temporary crown to help protect your tooth in the meantime. In only a week our lab will have fabricated your crown to fit precisely over your tooth leaving it protected for years to come!
